All Australians should be able to live their lives free from the harm caused by gambling. But right now we can’t sit down to watch a game of sport without being bombarded by gambling ads. We know that no child under 13 has watched a major sporting event without gambling ads. It’s not good enough.
Sport binds communities together and underpins many of the values we share. It teaches kids how to work together, solve problems and be gracious in defeat. But more and more sport is being used to glamourise gambling.
That’s why the Alliance for Gambling Reform is calling for a complete ban on sports gambling advertising, for overdue gambling harm policy reform to be enacted and for integrity measures to be legislated to tackle this crisis head on.
This Federal Election is a key moment for our movement to get gambling reform on the agenda.
